VITAL geo-technical drilling is being carried out by the American company tasked with building Fiji's first casino.
One Hundred Sands Limited said a specialised drilling machine was brought in to help with the work.
Company chairman Larry Claunch said the drilling was the first phase in the construction of the $290 million project before the foundation of the complex was laid.
He said the drilling was vital to the whole construction of the complex to ensure that it did not collapse in the case of an earthquake.
"We have been drilling large holes on the ground in the geo-tech work and it is very important for the whole construction," Mr Claunch said.
"We have a great team on hand that is looking after this process and they will ensure that everything is safe before we go onto the next phase of the construction," he said.
Mr Claunch said the construction was going according to plan and the complex would be opened in September 2013.
The project is expected to generate 900 jobs during the construction phase and 700 more job opportunities expected once the casino and hotel and convention centre are operational.
