Road contractor says they have difficulty in sourcing quality gravels

Shortage of materials (aggregates) has hindered roadsworks in the Northern Division.

Fulton Hogan’s Stephen Wright said there was a shortage of quality gravel including machinery and other equipment.

His comment comes after Macuata Provincial Development Board members questioned Fiji Roads Authority on the progress of work on roads in the North.

Work is likely to begin in August when materials are in stockpile.

Fiji Live: Naupoto awaits Bainimarama's invite

Minister for Youth and Sports Commander Viliame Naupoto will stand in the 2014 elections if invited by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama. 


Naupoto told FijiLive he wanted to know what the people wanted but if PM Bainimarama forms his party and invites his minister of sports to be a candidate, he would gladly join. 


“I’m still waiting to see the formation of the party; I will be a candidate if invited by PM,” Naupoto said. 


Commander Naupoto is a former Commander of the Fijian Navy and was Fiji's Director of Immigration before being appointed as Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forests and later Minister for Youth and Sports.

Fiji Village: 0.4% decrease recorded in visitor arrivals

Publish date/time: 17/03/2014 [17:06] A 0.4 percent decrease has been recorded in the number of visitor arrivals for last year compared to 2012. According to Fiji Bureau of Statistics, visitor arrivals last year totaled 657,706 while 660,590 tourists traveled to Fiji in 2012. Australia continues to be the major source of visitors to Fiji accounting for 51.7 percent of total arrivals last year. A total of 340,151 tourists from Australia visited Fiji last year. New Zealand, the United States of America, Pacific Islands and Continental Europe were Fiji’s other top four visitor source markets. Fiji Village: Townsend claims Pryde’s statement misleading

Publish date/time: 17/03/2014 [17:08] Former Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Ruth Townsend is claiming that she did not resign for further opportunities. Speaking to Fijivillage, Townsend said that the statement by Director of DPP, Christopher Pryde that she resigned for other opportunities is misleading. Townsend said that she was only unhappy with certain things at the DPP’s office.
