Civil servants who wish to contest the 2014 General Elections will have to resign before applying to contest.
Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission Parmesh Chand said with reference to the PSC Circular No 09/2013, civil servants must resign prior to applying to become an applicant or a member of, or hold office in, a proposed political party or a political party registered under the Decree No.4 of 2013 on Political Parties (Registrations, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures).
He said in the case where a public officer applies to become an applicant or member of, or hold office in a proposed political party while still in office, he/she will be deemed to have resigned immediately.
