Vanua Levu beating did happen...but man believed still alive

Intelligentsiya reported last week the death of a man in Vanua Levu after being beaten up allegedly by soldiers. We have now obtained information that he did NOT die but was seriously assaulted.

He is believed to be still alive but very seriously wounded and being cared for in a secret location near Savusavu, according to our sources. It is believed he has not been taken to the hospital because he has a close relative in the military and they do not want it being publicized.

More later.

I love conspiracy theories!

He died, he didn't die, he's hurt, he's in hiding... and so on and so forth.

I'm not taking a dig at the injured individual, no way! But this is another example of how incidences are reported, misreported, partially reported/fabricated and sometimes dependent on secondhand information.

Intelligentsiya, if you're not careful, you'll soon be on the fast track to becoming yet another irresponsible reporter of partial facts...like some media outlets!

That aside, God bless that man, may he fully recover soon.

keep up the good work, but remember that your credibility is all you have, and that one of the best ways for tyrranical regimes to marginalise their opponents is to make them sound shrill and self-righteous. i am impressed with the generally neutral tone you have been able to keep up.

keep at it intelly. tenacity brings results. keep at it no matter what comes. people dont praise hard work, they praise results, so keep at it - one day this will all come out.... and altho peoples memories are short and they wont praise you for the hard work - they will remember who broke the story first.
good luck and god be with you.

We found out that out Cousin took a horrible beating a few nights ago and is in very serious condition in hospital. It is horrible to think that other people treat people this way. I am scared for everyone in Fiji and can only hope and pray. I wish I had more information about him and what happened, maybe we can help from another country.
