Did Bainimarama threaten US envoy?

There’s an interesting story from Pacnews reprinted in the Fiji Times about the US cancelling Commodore Frank Bainimarama’s visa.

The story quotes Bainimarama as telling a function held at the army headquarters that the US ambassador Larry Dinger should “prepare his running shoes” – a reference to the instances when detained people are made to run around at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks.

An Intelligentsiya reader alerted us to this comment buried deep inside the story and asks: “Did he really just threaten to take Larry up to camp and make him run?” and “Did he really just break the Vienna convention rules about threatening diplomats?”

If the comment is reported correctly it reveals a serious lack of understanding of diplomatic protocols on Bainimarama’s part.

Are we really heading for a dictatorship?

It shows what many think, the political inexperience and lack of judgment, his learning on the hoof and at the expense of the populace, let alone the behavioural problems the man has for whatever reason. All reasons for him to relinquish the PM post.
If that was the meaning, and were it to occur he'd be guaranteeing intervention

It just reveals the mentality of Bainimarama. His answer to everything is abuse and intimidation, and we wonder why the soldiers are doing the same to the people. This is a clear indication that Frank approves of the methods being used. Also interesting is that someone who was close enough to him to hear those comments has leaked it to the media. Food for thought indeed.

Mr. Dinger should just trun up to QEB with a couple of US marine battalions, three Apachee Helicopters and a Naval Destroyer out by Nukulau, and collect Bainimarama's passport.

If that happened, Bainimarama's white dress shoes would have dribbles of brown all over it. I'd pay money, good money to see that!!!

Did he really did that? Oh! Shame on u Bainimarama! u bettter be prepared 4 the worst 2 come!

If true I guess it also accurately reflects Bainimarama's serious lack of understanding of pretty much anything to do with running a Government or a nation. Come to think of it, he's not even that great at running an army, either!

As each day passes, the whole world is beginning to see what a thick-headed ulukau we have as PM is.

On the note of sending Destroyers and Apache helicopters to Fiji won't even survive a hearing request in US Congress.

If you did know, only Congress has a right to declare war and make appropriations for it. The US Embassy is phone call away from packing his bags because he was appointed by the Republicans.

The Democrats are in charge now.

On the Vienna protocol, threats at Cocktail parties are not included.

One Apachee helicopter will do with two stinger missiles loaded on the sides aimed at his mouth!

Get a life Bainimarama!

The Internet is just the best thing that has happened in modern history and this Blog confirms it. How great to be able to comment freely and I tuely enjoy all that is said from both sides.

This comment by the 'Interim Self Appointed everybody' is perhaps the best example of his attitude to life, Fiji and everything.

When will he get the message that Fiji is better off without him. He has give the FLP the head start they have for so long craved, now let us see them front up at election time.

Thanks Intelligentsiya for giving voice to the silent majority..

Oh purleeaaase....VB should should just shut his gorb if he know what's good for him. I seriously doubt whether he know what the VIENNA CONVENTION is all about...na 'yes school' gona (not)

Seriously this frank does not understand that his utterances as PM have serious ramifications. Clearly this is sub standard leadership material. Give him a heavy dosage of hormonal tablet to boost his reasoning power. What an embarassment!

Great comments/analyses by the first two anons! Right on! Unfortunately Frank and his cronies are just too dim to realise how inadequate they are for the task they've arrogated to themselves! Oilei ko Viti lomani!

Father of mercy, I would mortgage my house and sell my car to get front row tickets for that one in a heart beat.

Thats how strongly I detest the IG

Bainimarama is just pushing his luck.
The US will not tolerate such a comment and will treat it as a threat.
Does any of his comrades ever tutor him in public speaking..i guess they are all probably too busy in trying to look up new vocabs to blow us away with when making their stupid press statements.

oilei na ulukau ga!! man in desperation but too scared to show it..might be the other way around, Baini in his poo covered dress shoes running from the US of A marines!

Well, I reckon a run would have done the bloke good - heck, would have been great getting a workout - military style!!!

Jokes aside, I think a certain amount of diplomacy should have been in order. ;)

I'm not at all surprised to hear "bring your running shoes" uttered by a "man" who is known to be allways on the run or beign chased.
1. Had to run or chased from the Navy because of his incompetence. 2. He was chased away from his duties in the Middle East because of his insobriety (drunkard)behaviour.
3. Of course he will never forget that day in November 2000 when he was chased and saved only by his "running shoes".
4. The last and final run will happen soon for the whole world to see when "he will be made to run away from Delainabua for the last time." That is the story of his life. Frank the runner! Cici cici Tiko Voreq!!

Na ulukau ga na ulukau. na mona malumalumu, na ulu pepa. Bainimarama is caught between a rock and a hard place. If he jumps, it will be from a pan into the fire. He got so mad over the visa because the man is planning a mad dash for freedom from people who got their fingers up deep in his arse actually controlling him. Ever wondered why he was so easily convinced by Mahen Choddo that it will be a good idea to conduct a campaign to rid Fiji of corruption? Because the man doesn't have a mind of his own thats why. If your tell him that the testicles of a bull actually contains milk too, he will believe you. When he met up with the master deceiver and lier, he had no chance whatsoever.

Are we really heading for a dictatorship?

From all intents and purposes we are already living under a bloody dictatorship. The military machine continues to roll on in spite of their withdrawal from check points. There is no point in pretending that nothing goes without military concurrence. The IG and President are merely rubber stamps to give legitimacy to so called road map to democratic rule. You only have to read press release from the infamous Leweni or Teleni...they comment on national issues that is supposedly the prerogative of government. Why can't the military go back to be soldiers instead of trying to be jack of all trades and master of nothin? They should keep quite for a change and let the IG run the country. They should return to barracks and let the police do their job. Its sad to note that in the face of economic collapse the IG goes on and gazzete all types of military allowance...pay back for the boys indeed.

The dictator meanwhile parades around in his white uniform...because that is his source of power. You as much as disagree with the military you are considered a threat to national security. So as far as I am concerned Fiji is already under a nin comput dictator.

He (via his running shoes comment)now shows the world he does not grasp the basic realities of international relations. The US, if it wants to, can make life for us in Fiji very, very difficult.
I wonder if this comment will impact Fiji's delegation to the EU in any way.

As events are now unfolding. Frank has done all this not in the name of eradicating corruption but because he is still unhappy that he was the first Commander to run down the slopes of Delainabua towards Namadi Heights at the height of the Nov. 2nd mutiny. that track is still clean toward. I think he must have crawled.

oilei.

i cant believe a statement like that came out of the mouth of the person 'running' our country.

lma@ what good men had said.ha ha aha

Mr Dinger probably doesnt need the choppers, just 1 tank. nothing more. then we'll see if Frankie would try and re-enact the Tiananmen Square tankman of 1989. thats when we will see the 'running man'. lmao.

Ro Teimumu warned Fiji about the poor qualities of the IG PM, and the answer from FMF grog doped spokesman..."will make him a good leader". Can you believe one idiot covering another.

FB's problem he is egotistic, one praise from an insignificant ant and he thinks he is Mr. Universe. So the more people praise him the worse he behaves and acts.
