RNZI: SDL Party official says Fiji police conduct "aggressive" raid on HQ

A senior executive of the SDL party in Fiji has confirmed Fiji police have searched the party office and removed its main computer.

Mataiasi Ragigia says two squads of six police officers with a search warrant entered their premises last week, ordering the staff to leave.

The SDL party, led by the ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, has a mostly indigenous Fijian support base.

Mr Ragigia says the police were from a special investigation unit and their manner was aggressive.

“None of us were taken in for questioning. We were just told to leave. They got into the office with a copy of the search warrant and a list of the items they wanted to take. They’re looking for some documents that will lead to some charges being laid against some people.”

Mr Ragigia says the police stood guard over their premises after the raid.
