It was a buzz of activity in Suva last night when Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama officially launched Tappoo City.

The US$25 million Tappoo City opened its doors in the Capital City in December 2009.

Government Ministers including the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the business community were part of the event.

In his address the Prime Minister says a modern Fiji needs a modern capital and projects such as the Tappoo City lifts the tone of Suva.

He says the building has raised the bar and set a very high standard for everyone else.

The Tappoo Group was formed in 1941 and Bainimarama says since then, it has had an unwavering presence.

He then pointed out his announcement in the 2013 budget where he said that government has introduced many initiatives and incentives for private sector growth.

Tappoo Group Chairman Kanti Tappoo says the opening of the new Tappoo City marks the beginning of a new renaissance of luxury in Fiji’s hospitality industry.

The Group also gave $21,000 to the Ministry of Education to assist in the education of school children in the Nadroga Province.
