Lau EVR trip on hold

The government ship MV Iloilovatu which had set sail to the Lau Island was unable to transport the Electronic Voter Registration clerks.

80 registration clerks from the Elections office, who were to be deployed at the Lau centres for the EVR registration office will have to wait it out in Suva due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The Navy Commander, Commander John Fox said, “The ship had set sail for the island on Wednesday night, however had to return as a result of strong winds.”

“The strong wind in the sea and rough weather has hindered our sail to any part of the Fiji Islands.”

Commander Fox said that it was for the safety of the passengers, as it would have been a huge risk to continue the operation.

“The ship will depart Suva as soon we have a fine approachable weather.”

Meanwhile, seven EVR clerks have been deployed at the Government Shipping Services wharf in Walu Bay.
