Tikoitoga confirms submission

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ (RFMF) submission to the Constitution Commission is ready.

This was confirmed by the RFMF Land Force Commander and spokesman, RFMF: Our plan Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga.

“I can confirm that our submission to the Constitution Commission on our new Constitution is completed and will soon be submitted,” Colonel Tikoitoga said.

In an earlier interview with the Prime Minister and Commander of the RFMF, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at Dravo Village in Tailevu, he said the military would make a submission to the Commission because they had started the new journey for Fiji.

Colonel Tikoitoga had earlier said that the military take- over in 2006 was for a clean-up campaign.

“The rot set in around 2000, and the military acted only after they had endured a deteriorating situation over a long time, putting up with scams, corruption and bribery. The military was not happy with what it viewed to be politics of favouritism that promoted corruption and abuse of office,” he said.

He said the military wanted to see the clean-up completed successfully.

He said they would like to see the building of a new and better Fiji and no going back to the problems of the past.

“The military of today, like all decent citizens, wants to end the coup culture and politics of race and corruption which brought our country so much grief and held back progress.

“The men and women of our military are playing a positive role, not just in security, but also in national development.”

Colonel Tikoitoga said no one could tell the security forces, especially the military, to stay away from this process because they started the clean-up.

“No one should try to hijack all the work the military has done,” he said.
