Prime Minister and Republic of the Fiji Military Forces Commander Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama presents medals to military officers who have served for more than 15 years at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Suva yesterday.
THE Republic of the Fiji Military Forces will be part of the Constituent Assembly.
Prime Minister and Army Commander Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama made this confirmation while speaking to soldiers during this year's first military parade and medal presentation ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, Suva, yesterday.
Speaking in the iTaukei language, Commodore Bainimarama said the Constituent Assembly would be announced shortly and the military would have a representative to the assembly.
He said everyone knew what had happened to the draft constitution by Prof Yash Ghai.
He said there were some things in the draft constitution that the government felt was not going to take the country forward.
Commodore Bainimarama said a new constitution was being drawn up to ensure that Fiji prospered.
He said the good thing was that government had started with the process and the Constituent Assembly was soon going to discuss the constitution.
Commodore Bainimarama said the military would want to see its proposal in the new constitution.
He reminded officers to know and be aware and closely follow what government was doing until elections.
He said the election was part of the military's plan and that army officers should not to be surprised with some of the decisions the government made.
