Government has given its assurance that job offers coming from the United Arab Emirates are genuine and the work environment is safe.
Minister for Labour Jone Usamate says Fiji’s Ambassador to the UAE Robin Nair has vetted the offers as well as the companies proposing the employment opportunities.
Usamate says they are doing all they can to ensure, locals who take up the job offers will not face any labour rights issues, given the UAE’ s record of abuses.
“We will look into the contracts. Test the contracts and work very closely with our Ambassador to make sure that our people are well looked after and to make sure that we don’t have the problems we had in the past where government had to go in and pull people out of countries because there was not enough attention paid to the conditions under which they were employed.”
Locals are wanted in the UAE for jobs in the medical, tourism, and communication and retail sectors.
