The latest Public Accounts Committee Report reveals that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in his capacity as Commander of the Fiji Military Forces has fully reimbursed his overpaid leave compensation.
The Auditor General’s Office carried out a special audit on the payments of leave compensation to the Commander and senior officers of the military.
According to a report from the Public Accounts Committee released yesterday, 18 senior officers were compensated for leave without their knowledge as it arose from the Office of Brigadier General, Mohammed Aziz.
The Committee says the audit on the overpayment of leave compensation to the commander and senior officers of the RFMF was not wrong in law and executed to the letter.
It says the overpayment was a drafting error in the legislation relating to leave regulations for servicemen.
The report says the commander; Lt Colonel Mason Smith and Major P. Sikuri have repaid their leave compensation.
The overpayment was made to senior officers including Lt Colonel George Langman, Commander Joeli Cawaki, Commander Viliame Naupoto, a Commander Naqali and a Major Seru.
They have all made arrangements through fortnightly salary deductions to recover the compensation.
