PUBLIC officers intending to contest next year's elections will have to resign from their posts, says Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
"For any public office holder, for example, you cannot be a public office holder and also be nominated for parliament, but that falls in once the nominations open," he said when approached by the media in Lautoka last Sunday.
Meanwhile, the A-G would not comment on whether he intended to stand as a candidate in the 2014 elections.
He said his office was focused on ensuring that elections were carried out in a transparent manner.
"There is a lot of work to be done until the elections and also we are all focused in ensuring that, for example, we have (to have) transparent systems in place, that the Elections Office conduct (elections) in a transparent manner, that international standards are adhered to and also obviously there are a lot of regulations that need to be put in place and that is what we are focused on.
"We are very much focused on preparing for the elections in terms of putting in place the right rules and regulations that we need to adhere to, we need to ensure that we have the right ballot boxes and of course we need to ensure that transparent systems are in place," he said.
