Waila City complex contractor, Top Symphony of Malaysia is tasked with converting 800 acres into approximately 5000 housing units alongside commercial, industrial, educational and religious lots.

Housing Authority spokesperson Dwain Qalovaki says they are now working with the contractor to conduct the ‘performance specification’ phase which will detail the materials to be used in the construction of the housing units.

Qalovaki says currently initial earth works have begun on the site to create a four-lane road as well as plans to raise the area at least 9 meters above sea level which will mitigate flood risk to the city.

Last month, a team of Engineers were in from Malaysia to discuss design differences and agree to the design aspect for the city and the housing component.

Then they will face another mammoth task - finding enough people with money in Fiji to buy a billion dollars worth of lots/apartments/housing
