Electrical fault caused the fire on the Nasese and Raiwaqa buses, the Land Transport Authority investigations have confirmed.
Now the LTA is calling on all bus owners to follow its Quality Assurance Maintenance System (QAMS) to avoid incidents in the future.
“Modifications, alterations and extra wiring in the buses for listening devices such as speakers and other lightings, exposes the system to high electrical short circuit which is very dangerous, which has resulted in the bus fires in the two cases,” LTA spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said.
“We are now working with the two bus companies to better their fleet conditions and to prevent such incidents in the future.
“We have issued strict warning to the two companies to follow our QAMS. We are also encouraging other bus companies to follow suit. The QAMS describes all aspects of garage maintenance.”
No one was hurt during the bus blaze.
He said severe penalties would be taken against the two bus companies, and other bus companies, if they failed to comply with lta’s instructions.
