The headman of Vunuku village in Rewa, Veniasi Qoloutawa, has called on the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, not to hold elections next year.
Mr Qaloutawa had asked the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, to relay their call to the Prime Minister.
“We want you to tell the Prime Minister that we, the people of the Yavusa ‘o Burenivalu, do not want another election and we want him to continue leading the country,” he said.
The six villages of the yavusa – Nadoi, Vunuku, Narociva, Tavuya, Drekena and Lokia – will support the political party to be formed by the Prime Minister,” he said.
He said that they had asked past governments to help them but were never listened to.
“Now we have a Prime Minister for the people and not only for some, as we have witnessed in the past.”
Mr Qoloutawa said in the past they had supported the Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara-led Alliance Party, the Sitiveni Rabuka-led Soqosoqo ni Vakavulewa ni Taukei (SVT) and the Laisenia Qarase-led Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL).
These three political parties, he said, had promised to help them but the promises remained unfulfilled.
He said the developments carried out by the present Government were not done by previous governments.
He said from 2007, when leadership changed, they noticed a positive change in Government policy and rural people were prioritised in its development plan.
Mr Qoloutawa said they also applaud the good leadership of the Prime Minister.
