The Waila City Complex project is now underway.
Housing Authority spokesperson Dwain Qalovaki said earth moving equipment has already been brought in and land also being cleared at the site.
Qalovaki said developer Top Symphony Limited of Malaysia is now using digger trucks and earth moving machines to begin initial works.
Qalovaki added works have also commenced on the creation of a four lane road through the Waila City area which will connect the entire city from Princes Road near Nausori to Adi Lady Davila Ganilau Road in Nakasi.
As the city is designed to cater for approximately 5,000 Fijian families, a four lane road is appropriate to cater for the flow of traffic within Waila and also outside towards Nakasi and Princes Road.
The first phase of the multi-million dollar development project is expected to begin towards the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Waila City is expected to yield approximately 5,000 housing units that will cater for all categories of home buyers including low, middle and high income earners.
