A THINK tank committee has been established in Tavua to address issues faced by residents in the rural centre.
Chaired by the Tui Tavua, Ratu Jale Waisale Kuwe Ratu, the committee will address the most pressing concerns of Tavua residents.
"It is very obvious that basic infrastructure needs to be in place first before any major development can be undertaken," said interim special administrator Praveen Bala.
"Tavua has critical issues that needs to be addressed.
"The town has no sewerage system, no dump site and there are drainage and dredging issues that need to be looked into."
Mr Bala said a major concern was the cost to ratepayers of $160 per trip for garbage to be dumped at the Ba tip.
"This is a very costly exercise and we will definitely look for a site within Tavua for this."
Ratu Jale said he was honoured to contribute to a better future for all Tavua residents.
"This is something that I have been discussing with Tavua Town Council CEO Tulsi Ram for some time," he said.
"When the committee is fully established, we will look at addressing issues in a holistic manner by involving and working with villagers, the town council, ratepayers and stakeholders."
Mr Bala said the committee of relevant stakeholders would be announced later this week.
